The World Design Capital (WDC) is designated every two years by the World Design Organization to recognize a city’s innovative use of design to strengthen economic, social, cultural and environmental development.

The World Design Capital provides a platform to showcase best practices in design-led urban policy and innovation in different domains such as public transports, sustainable infrastructure, demographic evolution, mobility, renewable energy, inclusive and transparent governance, and many more.

First launched in Torino (Italy) in 2008, WDC has also been awarded to Helsinki (Finland) in 2012. In 2020, Lille Metropole will be the first french city to become World Design Capital.
