The Bulgarian Community in Budapest with donation for Saint Ivan Rilski Church in Sofia

The Bulgarian society in Budapest gave to Sofia a memorial plaque with the image of Saint Ivan Rilski. This generous act, have been committed in Budapest during the meeting between Yordanka Fandakova, Mayor of Sofia, and the representative of the Bulgarian community in the Hungarian Parliament, Simeon Varga.

The same plaque will be placed in the temple Saint Sophia. From 1185 to 1187, the relics of St Ivan Rilski were kept in the Basilica of Esztergom, where they were brought by the Hungarian King Bella III and subsequently returned to Bulgaria.

During the meeting, an event called Day of Bulgarian-Hungarian Friendship was discussed in details. The initiative itself will take place simultaneously in the two capitals - Sofia and Budapest on 19th of October 2017.

Yordanka Fandakova has donated books to the Bulgarian School ‘s Library in Budapest. Sofia is supporting the Bulgarian community, which is keeping the Bulgarian traditions alive and manages to constantly teach children Bulgarian language, said the mayor.

The meeting was attended by Bulgaria's Ambassador Yuliana Bogdanska, Sofia's Deputy Mayor Todor Chobanov and Szimeon Varga, who represents the Bulgarian community in the Hungarian Parliament.
