Wine merchants from 46 countries at a congress in Sofia

The Congress is expected to bring together more than 1,000 representatives from all 46 member states of the International Organization of Vine and Wine. Bulgaria will host the forum for the first time and this is its 40th anniversary edition. The official opening is on May 29 at 11 am at the Marinella Hotel, EFE Hall. The forum will be held until June 2nd.

The forum will give huge publicity to Bulgarian wine and to Bulgaria itself as a wine-producing country.  A congress of such rank in our country is a great advertisement for Bulgarian wine. Bulgaria is the sixth largest exporter of wine in the world, as wine production dates back to Thracian times, reminded the Ministry of Agriculture. The forum is expected to increase significantly the wine exports next year.

This year, for the most important event in the world of wine at the capital are arriving representatives from all 46 member states of the International Organization of Vine and Wine - OIV. Among the participants there are senior representatives of state power and business, leading world experts, oenologists, wine-tasters, prominent wine traders, wine growers and wine producers. Within the congress, the main issues which concern the sector will be discussed, and decisions will be taken on specific policies for the development of wine and viticulture. The guests will have the opportunity to get acquainted and to taste the production of wine-producing regions in Bulgaria.

The Congress will be officially opened by the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry - Rumen Porozhanov. The event will be attended by Dr. Monika Kristman, President of the International Vine and Wine Organization, as well as other Bulgarian Ministers.
